Special Competitions
SolidWorks 2012 Beta Modeling Competitions: 5 rounds, first round starts Monday, June 27.
Official Entry Rules
We will have 5, 2-week rounds of modeling competitions with the first round beginning on the day SolidWorks 2012 Beta is launched (6/27/11). Each round will have a theme, and users are to use SolidWorks 2012 Beta to design a part or assembly model that best fits the theme. To enter, use SolidWorks 2012 to create a new model and submit an SR with your model (and all referenced files) along with a signed authorization form. Models can be parts or assemblies (assemblies must have all referenced components). Entries will be judged on complexity, most creative incorporation of theme and the best use of new SolidWorks 2012 features by members of the beta support team. Each of the 5 rounds will last 2 weeks and one winner will be chosen from each round. Beta participants are eligible to enter and to win in all 5 rounds. Repeat winners are allowed.
Each week, a different theme will be selected. This year’s themes are industrial art, nature, human faces, animation & motion and standard part/assembly modeling.
Industrial art will take everyday models (toolbox components or your existing part files) and create a unique new sculpture using assembly mates.
Human faces will be modeled after oneself or a celebrity, and may be put up for a “guess who” forum thread.
Nature will come to life in SolidWorks 2012 when users try to model any aspect of it they wish (trees, animals, etc.).
Lastly, animation & motion skills will be tested to see who can create a one of a kind motion study. The order of the themes for each round has not yet been decided, but will be announced before the round begins.
For some inspiration for your industrial art sculptures, feel free to have a look at this site, or here, here, here, or here.
When submitting your entries remember to include titles and detailed descriptions telling us why your part is so great and why you think it should win. The winning model for each theme will receive a prize. These models (or their images) may be used in future Beta t-shirts, calendars and/or other future DS SolidWorks marketing materials.

- Round 2: 7/9-7/22
- Round 3: 7/23-/8/5
- Round 4: 8/6-8/19

There will be 4 2-week rounds with the first round starting on Monday, July 5th and ending on Sunday, July 18th. Two winners will be chosen from each round. At the end of the competition the top 3 renderings will be chosen from among the winning images from all 4 rounds. Images will be judged on realism, complexity, best use of PV360 features, and overall creativity. You can enter and win every week that the contest is open. Please include titles and detailed descriptions telling us why your image is so great, and why you think it should win. Winning images receive prizes and may be used in future Beta tee-shirts, calendars, and SolidWorks promotions.
