Here's what some of our users have to say about the new features in SolidWorks 2008:

DFMXpress

I would certainly junior engineers use DFMXpress as they may lack the experience needed to recognize geometry that is difficult, expensive or impossible to machine. DFMXpress would be a great tool that could not only catch some unwanted geometry but help teach them to recognize such geometry.  I would definitely run the tool, simply to make sure I did not over look something in the proposed design, prior to manufacturing.  DFMXpress is certainly one of the more useful pieces of software I have recently seen.”

Design Insight

“The new Design Insight plots in COSMOSWorks will be very helpful and save a lot of time on new designs.  The plot pointed out a non-intuitive reduction on a one of my weight sensitive parts that I hadn't even considered.”

DriveWorksXpress

"After searching for a solution that would enable us to automate our designs, DriveWorksXpress quickly jumped out as the best solution.  The simple user Interface and tight integration with SolidWorks enabled me to become productive using the tool after just a few days.  DriveWorksXpress has enabled us to reduce our product development times by up to 80% by automating many of our repetitive design tasks.”

New UI

"The new interface is fantastic, simplifying the process of the CAD aspect of the design process. Real View, to me has no impact on the design process as I generally turn it off when designing. But is a fantastic tool when showing initial designs to customers who may not be “technical” but appreciate the “pretty images” without resorting to a full photo works render.

Design clip art, not fully utilized the aspect as of yet but will find it useful in the future."

Design Clip Art

"'Design Clipart' is a major enhancement to SolidWorks and turbocharges an already full featured SolidWorks Search capability coupled with SolidWorks Scheduler into a personal librarian and creative advisor. I find myself spending more time each year just searching for certain files, and of course if I need to drill down into a file for the specific item of information I

need for reuse or reference, the time can really add up. 'Design Clipart' organizes all the features, sketches, and other components that comprise parts and drawings into an easy thumbnail viewer that will take the drudgery out of searching and searching for past data and let new information surface

to stimulate the design process in a new way. This feature will definitely help my individual productivity, but I think the capability to expose design elements beyond the PDM archive will really boost an organizations ability to collaborate more productively."

New UI and Real View

"The UI is definitely very slick. It has a lot more intuitive feel. There’s more on screen functionality instead of having to go to menus or toolbars. That saves a lot of unnecessary movement. Switching between documents is better too, because you see what you’re switching to before you actually do. Applying RealView Scenes is so quick now. With the control being right on the screen it makes it possible to cycle quickly through different scenes to get the right look."
