2. Does SolidWorks Student Edition 2008-2009 work on Microsoft Vista 64-bit?
No, SolidWorks Student Edition 2008-2009 (and prior versions) do not work on Microsoft Vista 64-bit.
Yes. SolidWorks Student Edition 2009-2010 will be compatible with the 64-bit operating system.
SolidWorks Student Edition COSMOS (Simulation) license files may be requested from the following webpage:

Please use the same email address for requesting Cosmos license file which you had used for registering SolidWorks Student Edition.(SW license server checks which version was last registered using this email address and gives a license file accordingly).
You will need to provide your Host ID.
Find the Host ID this way:
- On your desktop click the Windows "START" Button, then click on "Run..."
- In the box, type: cmd
- A command prompt window will appear.
- At the cursor, type: ipconfig/all and hit the "Enter" key.
- Look for the Physical Address listed under "Ethernet Adapter". That is your HOST ID. (Do not use Wireless or Tunnel Adaptor address)
If you currently own the Student Edition 2007-2008 software please refer to the instructions below:
- When you receive the license file ("license.dat"), save it to your C:\drive.
- Delete old license files and replace with the new version.Go to START -> ALL PROGRAMS -> SOLIDWORKS -> COSMOS TOOLS -> LICENSE
ADMINISTRATOR TOOL - Go to "authorized module" tab
- Click "edit" and browse to the "license.dat" file
- Click "okay" then refresh.

When you receive the license file ("SolidWorksStandaloneLic.lic"), you will need to save it on your computer. Delete old license files and replace with the new version.
The appropriate folder is typically found in the following location:
Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SolidWorks
Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\SolidWorks (Note: you may need to checkmark 'Explorer\Organize\Folder and Search Options\View\Show hidden files and folders' in order to view this folder)
COSMOSWorks, and COSMOSFloWorks should now be licensed and ready for use.
After confirming that CosmosWorks and FloWorks are working correctly, please request for the hotfix for CosmosMotion using the given link:

Run the hotfix while logged in as administrator and all anti-virus applications turned off. After getting the installation successful message,
***DO NOT uninstall hotfix***.
Run SolidWorks and verify that cosmosMotion is working.

Please disable your pop-up blocker. If the pop-up blocker is not disabled, you will not see all windows that appear with the step-by-step instructions for downloading the Student Design Kit.
When downloading the Student Design Kit software, please remember to type in the serial number when prompted. If you do not type in the serial number, your license will default to expire after only 60 days.
10. Does SolidWorks Student Edition 2008-2009 work on Vista 32-bit?
SolidWorks Student Edition 2008-2009 works with Vista 32-bit, as long as the Vista version is Business, Ultimate and/or Enterprise. The Home versions do not work.
