What is the SolidWorks Student Edition?
SolidWorks is the CAD industry's leading mainstream solid modeling solution. The SolidWorks Student Edition is specially configured and packaged for today's engineering and industrial design students. It provides unmatched ease-of-use, power, and innovations that can help students master the fundamentals of engineering design and prepare them for rewarding and lucrative careers.
Who can buy the SolidWorks Student Edition?
The SolidWorks Student Edition is available to registered, active, degree-seeking students, currently enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited academic institution. Full-time faculty are also eligible to purchase the Student Edition. Proof of registration is required. The SolidWorks Student Edition is intended for personal learning purposes, and is unsuitable for commercial or institutional use.
Is the SolidWorks Student Edition different from the SolidWorks licenses my school is using to teach or the SolidWorks licenses they use at my summer job?
The software is essentially functionally identical, with one major exception. Institutional licenses and commercial licenses are subscription-based. That is, they can be renewed on an annual basis, and upgraded. The SolidWorks Student Edition is a 24-month, limited-term-use license, which means the software will expire twenty four months after registration. It cannot be renewed or upgraded. The SolidWorks Student Edition has a different registration and installation procedure designed for student users, as well as a soft-lock and other features that make this product unsuitable for institutional or commercial use.
What do I get with the software?

What if I need help with the software?
Both versions of the SolidWorks Student Edition include an insert sheet that will help you install and register the software license. Also included are online help tutorials that will aid in learning the software and "Introducing SolidWorks," a book in PDF format that can help you learn how to use the tools and menus.
SolidWorks Student Edition is a Windows®-native application, so if you know how to use popular Windows programs, you're already on your way to learning how to use SolidWorks. Your teacher might be a good resource for questions and help. However, if you have a problem you can't solve by yourself, you can log on to the SolidWorks Education Forum. Look for the category ‘Student Edition', where you should identify yourself as a Student Edition user. You can then consult with fellow SolidWorks users and seek their assistance.
Please note that SolidWorks Corporation and SolidWorks resellers do not provide direct support for the Student Edition as part of the basic license.
Support availability?
Fee-based support may be available from authorized SolidWorks resellers. SolidWorks Corporation does not provide installation or user support for SolidWorks Student Edition.
If you continue to experience difficulties, please send an email containing your Student Edition Serial Number and Student Edition ID to studentreg@solidworks.com
