Foster engineering and life skills in high-school students. FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams solve a common problem in a six-week timeframe using a standard “kit of parts” and a common set of rules. After building robots from the parts, they enter them in competitions designed by Dean Kamen, Dr. Woodie Flowers, and a committee of engineers and other professionals.
The FRC rewards students not only for excellence in design, but also for team spirit, gracious professionalism, and maturity, as well as for the ability to overcome obstacles–all traits that future employers will value highly.
