Researchers

With the SolidWorks® University Research License, researchers can access the latest in engineering technology, while communicating with other researchers and industrial users around the world.
Universities can purchase this steeply discounted license solely for use in research settings. The University Research License has no restrictions for use in publications, industry-funded projects, and patent applications, and does not contain the educational watermark. University Research Licenses follow the same release schedule as regular SolidWorks commercial licenses.

University Research License purchase eligibility
University research laboratories, medical schools, and teaching hospitals may purchase SolidWorks University Research Licensing at 50% off commercial list pricing for all products and services. The research work must be conducted on-site at the university, and must be hosted, sponsored, and/or administered by the university. There are no exceptions to this policy. Medical schools and teaching hospitals affiliated with universities are considered research facilities.
If SolidWorks is used as part of your research at the school, you would need university research. If SolidWorks is used as part of a class you are instructing, you would qualify for educational licensing. Please note that you cannot cross-use an educational license for your research even if it is primarily intended for teaching a class. A separate university research license is required in such cases.
Please note: Government research labs are not eligible for university research licensing.
