: Many problems can be idealized to the study of a 2D section under load; Plane Stress (thin extrusions), Plane Strain (long extrusions) and axisymmetric (revolved geometry). The new 2D planar simplification tool allows users to create a 2D analysis by simply selecting the intersecting plane and apply the loads and restraints to the 3D CAD model. After the solution is calculated the results can be displayed on the full 3D model.

So a Response Spectra Analysis is carried out to calculate the peak value of your models response based on a vibration spectrum base excitation.
