Liverpool John Moores University purchases 200 licenses of SolidWorks Education Edition
SolidWorks 3D mechanical design and COSMOS design analysis software prepare students for careers at global enterprises
CONCORD, Mass., Sept. 28, 2005 ? Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) has purchased 200 licenses of SolidWorks® Education Edition software to prepare its students for engineering careers with some of the world's largest companies. SolidWorks 3D mechanical design and COSMOS® design analysis software will help students quickly learn the key fundamentals of product development and master skills they'll need at national and international organizations.
Founded in 1825 in one of the country's most significant commercial port cities, LJMU has more than 24,000 graduate and undergraduate students earning degrees in business, law, health and applied sciences, arts and social science, technology, education, and environmental studies. The LJMU School of Engineering is replacing Pro/ENGINEER® with SolidWorks and COSMOS software for all core engineering courses.
?With our previous CAD product, students spent way too much time learning how to use software, and not enough on learning how to design things,? said Glynn Rothwell, principal lecturer at LJMU. ?This fall, first-year students learning SolidWorks and COSMOS will quickly understand the basics so they can hone the design and analysis skills they'll need to embark on successful careers. SolidWorks has become widely adopted in many of the companies our graduates join, and incorporating it in our curriculum will improve students' job prospects.?
The SolidWorks Education Edition provides LJMU the intuitive interface and powerful design and analysis capabilities that will enable students to explore new ways to design Formula One race cars, wind turbines, and the marine propulsion systems that fuel Liverpool 's port industry. ?The tight integration between SolidWorks and COSMOS means students focus on the relationship between design and analysis and how to create solid models that work,? said Rothwell. ?Previously, they had to focus on the many different steps just to bring a design into the analysis program and run simulations.?
Aside from the marine and energy industries, LJMU students also create designs for the sports industry. They have applied their engineering skills to developing new running shoes, tennis rackets, and other gear, and could use SolidWorks and COSMOS to design the next generation of golf clubs for the PGA .
?The Liverpool John Moores University 's relationship with the manufacturing community gives it first-hand knowledge of what students need to pursue meaningful careers,? said SolidWorks Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Rainer Gawlick. ?SolidWorks is an industrial standard, and its user base continues to grow rapidly. Introducing students to the power of the SolidWorks community while they are pursuing their education gives them a significant advantage in a competitive job market.?
Liverpool John Moores University relies on SolidWorks reseller NT CADCAM for ongoing software training, implementation, and support.
