SOLIDWORKS Corporation again named one of Boston Business Journal's 'Best Places to Work'
SOLIDWORKS CEO: 'A great workplace attracts great people'
CONCORD, Mass., June 25, 2007 - The Boston Business Journal has honored SOLIDWORKS Corporation as one of the 2007 Best Places to Work in Massachusetts for the fourth consecutive year. The honor recognizes the 3D computer-aided design (CAD) software leader's achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, working conditions, and company culture.
SOLIDWORKS was one of 328 companies nominated "a 40 percent increase in nominees over 2006" and made the top 20 list in its size category based on the results of employee-engagement surveys taken throughout the spring.
"With the hiring market so tight, a quality workplace truly is a competitive advantage," said Boston Business Journal Editor George Donnelly. "Employees respond to a flexible yet challenging culture and company leaders who lead by example. Employees are proud to work for companies that are about more than just business."
SOLIDWORKS Corporation offers generous standard and unique fringe benefits, including: "Innovation Fridays" that encourage initiative and out-of-the box ideas; on-site Weight Watchers meetings; personal finance seminars; an on-site health club; and foreign language training. The company actively fosters a culture of helping others, whether in Rwanda , New Orleans , or Boston neighborhoods.
"Quality of life and business performance are inextricably intertwined, and quality of life comes first," said SOLIDWORKS Corporation CEO John McEleney. "We want the best workforce, so we need to create the best workplace to obtain the best people. This honor is an important validation of our efforts."
The top 20 companies in three size categories, small (20-100 employees), midsize (101-500 employees), and large (more than 500 employees), are listed in a special supplement of the Boston Business Journal published Friday, June 22. The supplement also provides insight into the three distinct leadership styles of the No. 1 companies. A countdown celebration breakfast was held on June 22 to announce the final rankings. The 2007 Best Places to Work project was launched in January by the Boston Business Journal in conjunction with market research firm QMR Inc. of Wichita, Kan. Companies were evaluated on the results of more than 25,000 employee-satisfaction surveys. Employees answered questionnaires that addressed such factors as their pride in the company, company encouragement, support and recognition of achievement, and relationships with co-workers and supervisors. The results were analyzed and scored by assigning points to each question.
