GEMÜ chooses SolidWorks 3D mechanical design software
Design tables automate wide range of configurations;
CONCORD, Mass., Aug. 15, 2005 ? A leading valve manufacturer, GEMÜ, has purchased 31 licenses of SolidWorks ® 3D mechanical design software for the design and construction of its entire product line, and for creating custom manufacturing tools.
GEMÜ is the leading European maker of sterile valve technology, including process, control, and pilot valves. The company serves prominent global companies in the pharmaceutical, food, biotechnology, microchip, process manufacturing, and environmental industries.
Advanced requirements in designing valve seats posed the need for GEMÜ to implement a new 3D mechanical design system. The company chose to transition from its 2D design software to SolidWorks due to its outstanding cost/performance ratio, ease of use, and powerful communication tools, which enable production plants in Brazil, China, France, Switzerland, and the United States to easily share design information. Using parametrically driven design tables, SolidWorks software accelerates the rapid development of valves in limitless configurations.
?Our engineers were astonished by the ease of use of SolidWorks software. The simple, logical user interface, combined with the clarity of its functions, allows even untrained employees to work effectively with SolidWorks,? said Arnd van Uden, technical manager at GEMÜ. ?We're working smarter and faster now, with a single set of data across all of our locations, and getting better products more quickly into customers' hands.?
GEMÜ's manufacturing operations
are spread across five countries, while construction and design are concentrated
in Germany. As a result, exchanging design data was a steep challenge for GEMÜ
before it implemented SolidWorks software. SolidWorks provides GEMÜ's users
with a single set of data across all sites via the SolidWorks eDrawings ? email-based
communications tool. eDrawings software enables anyone with e-mail to view,
print, and review SolidWorks design files .
GEMÜ uses COSMOSWorks ® design analysis software to help engineers analyze the strength of critical plastic valves and membranes, and correct designs before investing in prototypes and manufacturing. GEMÜ also plans to use SolidWorks PhotoWorks? rendering software to enhance sales and marketing materials.
?Valves are as critical to industry as they are to the human body, and GEMÜ has mastered the craft, supplying precision valves to some of the world's most advanced technology companies,? said Michel Gros, SolidWorks Corporation's executive vice president of Europe . ?Three-dimensional design has a prominent role to play in this kind of complex work, and GEMÜ has quickly begun harnessing its potential. We look forward to contributing in a small way to the company's enduring success.?
The authorized SolidWorks partner Solidpro Informationssystem GmbH was responsible for implementation and training at GEMÜ.
