Solidscape, Inc.: 3D Printers
Solidscape rapid prototype systems are used in conjunction with 3-dimensional CAD software to generate physical models of designs that can be directly investment cast or used as masters for RTV silicone molding. Solidscape's systems are compatible with all SolidWorks 3D CAD software packages.
Solidscape’s systems jet a proprietary thermoplastic (InduraCast™) for building models and a dissolvable support structure (InduraFill™) to support cavities, overhangs and undercuts. By using a dissolvable support structure, fine feature detail can be achieved without fear of breakage that can occur with other technologies. In addition, using a dissolvable support structure ensures a high quality surface finish, because nothing has to be broken, cut or scraped away. Solidscape's InduraCast™ has been formulated specifically for investment casting applications and exhibits no shrinkage and a clean, low temperature burnout.
Achievable accuracy is ± 0.001 inches (0.025 mm) per inch across the X,Y and Z dimensions and is consistent across the entire build envelope. The building process is unique in the industry. Models are constructed in layers. Each layer is built upon the previous layer until the design is completed. After each layer is produced, the surface of that layer is “shaved” flat by a rotary blade device and shaved material is vacuumed away. This process ensures high accuracy and surface finish.
The 76 Series systems operate unattended for up to 72 hours so that models can be produced overnight or over the weekend, thus maximizing throughput. Models need no bench-work cleanup and are immediately available for casting. All Solidscape systems operate in an office environment with no required facility modifications and can be situated on a sturdy table or desktop.
