Ingenieurbuero Jan Boettcher: DimensionRecorder
About Ingenieurbuero Jan Boettcher:
Ingenieurbuero Jan Boettcher specializes in customer-specific software solutions in the engineering and CAD domain.
DimensionRecorder is a tool for recording dimension values and point positions. It is fully integrated into SolidWorks® as an add-in.
DimensionRecorder records the values of user-selected dimensions and the coordinates of user-selected points during the movement of a sketch or assembly component. The recording of the dimension values and positions can be triggered by various events. Events are the dragging of a sketch, a model refresh, or the manual change of a dimension value, for example. Additionally, the recording of a new set of values can be manually triggered at any time. The user can add a label to a record set to tag special conditions.
The recorded values (including units and user tags) are written to an Excel spreadsheet. Additional output formats are planned. Positions are given in the context of the current model. Subsequent, identical value sets can be suppressed.
The add-in enables the user to easily collect information about the geometric dependencies within sketches or assemblies and to perform basic motion studies. The kinematics is based on the built-in constraints of SolidWorks. An example of use is the analysis of a rod linkage.
Since Version 2.0 DimensionRecorder is Open Source, it can be obtained, modified, and enhanced under the conditions of the European Union Public License (EUPL).
