The Challenge
ALLTEC is the world's leading supplier of laser mask marking systems. Its lasers are used in a number of products, including ophthalmologic instruments that can detect and thereby prevent retinal conditions such as glaucoma. The design team was using AutoCAD design software, but needed to reduce the design period for new lasers and marking-system components. They needed to shorten the production time used to produce the larger assemblies that included these components.
The Solution
We evaluated a full range of CAD software including Pro/ENGINEER, Solid Edge, and Mechanical Desktop, but chose SolidWorks software for its simplicity. SolidWorks offers a distinct time-saving advantage compared to other CAD systems, allowing us to double our productivity. With SolidWorks, we have significantly reduced the need for redesign. In fact, we have eliminated nearly 80% of design errors on our more complex products.
