Access Automation Limited
SUCCESS METRICS
- Cut design time of large rail bend sections by 50 percent
- Reduced manufacturing time of large bend sections by 25 to 30 percent
- Improved ride quality and fabrication accuracy
- Reduced rework and design problems on prototypes
The Challenge
Access Automation Limited builds cable car, inclined lift, and monorail systems for traversing steep hills and cliffs. These systems can change direction and gradient, and even curve around physical obstacles, and are ideal for facilitating discreet, convenient access to and travel around rugged, picturesque hillside properties. Business growth and increasing project complexity compelled the New Zealand company to move from manual drawings to 3D design.
The Solution
After evaluating the Pro/ENGINEER® and SolidWorks® 3D CAD systems, Access Automation chose SolidWorks solutions, implementing SolidWorks Professional design and SolidWorks Premium design and finite element analysis (FEA) software. The company chose SolidWorks solutions upon the recommendation of local universities and polytechnic institutions, and because of the software’s integrated design visualization and FEA capabilities. By selecting SolidWorks, Access Automation cut its design time on some rail components by 50 percent, reduced manufacturing time on some rail components by 25 to 30 percent, improved ride quality substantially, and reduced rework and design problems on prototypes.
