The Challenge
Based in Sweden, BMH Marine AB specializes in dry-bulk material handling equipment for marine terminal applications on shore and at sea. Its Siwertell and Nordströms brands are sold and used worldwide. The company's goal is to supply marine terminals for bulk operators which reduce cost and minimize pollution. To achieve this goal, BMH Marine needed to move from 2D to 3D design software.
The Solution
BMH Marine started to evaluate different 3D packages in 1995. At that time, none of the existing solutions were feasible for our purposes. Then, in 1998, BMH Marine chose SolidWorks software over Pro/ENGINEER because SolidWorks was easy to learn and a joy to work with. With SolidWorks the company could produce manufacturing drawings, perform stress analysis, and create pictures and animations of designs -- all within the same program. The company also found the ability to work with different configurations to be a great advantage. Working with SolidWorks has enabled BMH Marine to work with bulk terminal projects that are bigger than what would have been possible with 2D software.
