Berufskolleg für Technik und Medien
SUCCESS METRICS
- Easy to learn with intuitive handling
- Integrated simulation tools for design validations
- Photorealistic renderings and animations directly from 3D data
- CAM system connectivity
The Challenge
The Berufskolleg für Technik und Medien is located in Moenchengladbach and educates, amongst others, certified engineers in machinery techniques. Design has a special meaning in this field, and the Berufskolleg has a very good reputation in this schooling discipline. B&C Engineering, a company also located in Moenchengladbach, gave the academy a project to be executed by the students. Definition of the project was the development and the design of a roller guide path, adapted to different customer requests, which should vary through the dimensions of the design and the admissible weight. Also the roller guide path should be available over an internet Webshop.
The Solution
With the help of the design validation tools, integrated in the SolidWorks 3D CAD software, the students could make stress analysis and optimize their 3D models. Critical points of stress are easy to identify, visualized in terms of color, and can be eliminated accordingly to the results. Beside the 3D model, the students also created a set of drawings, based on each customer request of the chosen roller guide path, displayed as master for the manufacturing. Furthermore they created graphical drafts for marketing purposes. For that, they inserted a rendering of the rollerguide path, generated via mouse click from the CAD program, in a factory image. At the end, they also produced a camera controlled animation, based on the 3D data, as a promotional film.
