The Challenge
CAM Engineers is a leading manufacturer of metal casting patterns. Like other manufacturing companies, whatever the industry, our customers wanted on-time delivery with short lead-times, the highest levels of accuracy to meet their requirements, and top quality, with no compromises. Because model changes are frequent in the foundry process, we were looking for 3D software that was user friendly.
The Solution
We evaluated other packages, but chose SolidWorks software because it was the most user friendly and had a short learning curve, so that any person could adapt to it very quickly. SolidWorks also had more of the capabilities we were looking for: the split line feature -- for creating parting lines in patterns; the draft feature -- for easily creating draft angles; projected curves -- for complex profiles; the scale option -- for shrinkage allowances; and the join and cavity features -- for creating and separating molds and core boxes.
