Delft University of Technology
SUCCESS METRICS
- Cut student time-to-CAD proficiency by 50 percent
- Reduced lecturers required from five to one
- Improved quality of student design projects
- Certified students in CAD and SolidWorks Simulation
The Challenge
Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is the highest-ranked technical university in the Netherlands and one of the top technology institutions in Europe. Preparing students for industrial design and mechanical engineering careers requires an emphasis on design projects. TU Delft had used a different 3D CAD/CAE package until the 2009–2010 academic year, when it decided to switch to a 3D CAD and Simulation system that was easier to use and more efficient in helping the university achieve its educational goals.
The Solution
The university chose SolidWorks® Education Edition design and SolidWorks Simulation analysis software, implementing 6,000 licenses. By switching to SolidWorks, TU Delft cut the time it took for students to become proficient with CAD by 50 percent, reduced the number of lecturers from five to one, improved the quality of student design projects, and established student certification in the use of SolidWorks CAD and Simulation software.
