The Challenge

RCD Radiokomunikace spol. s r. o. is engaged in the research and development of antennas, filters, radio sets and related accessories and supplies of both interior and exterior radio coverage, including turn-key supplies of all engineering and construction activities. RCD Radiokomunikace specialises in supplying radio coverage of tunnels, tube railways and underground spaces. In 2006, the RCD Radiokomunikace executives faced the question: How can the company’s development of its own radio communications solutions be more effective and strengthen its position in the highly competitive market? Switching to a 3D CAD system in the design segment – dominated by 2D design in AutoCAD LT until then – presented itself as a natural choice.

The Solution

SolidWorks won the subsequent tender – not only because of the advanced possibilities the software offers, but also thanks to the proposal and active approach of its supplier, SolidVision. Today, the company fully utilises six SolidWorks floating licences (three of which are Premium licence versions). They also embraced SolidWorks Composer to provide themselves with necessary service and installation manuals. Combining SolidWorks 3D CAD system and SolidWorks Composer solution within an environment of controlled management and construction data exchange and publication helps RCD Radiokomunikace to achieve a significantly higher level of work efficiency. The time savings – for the design and drawing documentation alone – are as much as 2/3 (as compared to the previous process). The advanced software technologies have found its way not only into design and development departments, but also to purchasing, manufacturing and sales departments as well. Their role in the everyday tasks the designers cope with has gradually become irreplaceable.
