The Challenge

RENATE is a national center in Norway founded by The Ministry of Education and Research, with the mission to strengthen mathematics, natural sciences, and technology education. The challenge for RENATE is to increase interest for the engineering profession at the university level. In the past 10 years, a number of students have abandoned bachelor of science degrees in engineering because the curriculum was not challenging for students.

The Solution

RENATE’s Technology and Design program seeks to attract students to engineering careers by allowing them to use modern CAD-tools to explore engineering creativity at an early age. After evaluating several CAD packages, RENATE chose to purchase up to 30,000 licenses of SolidWorks CAD software because the short learning curve allows high school students to quickly understand product design principles so they can begin to develop their 3D skills in just a few days. RENATE also chose SolidWorks CAD software because it is the preferred design tool in many manufacturing facilities throughout Norway and the Nordic region. Students with SolidWorks CAD software experience will have an important advantage when looking for jobs.
