The Challenge
Robert Bosch LLC is the world’s largest automotive components manufacturer. The company also produces technologies and consumer goods for applications as varied as packaging, production, and security solutions; home appliances, power tools, and healthcare products; and solar energy, thermotechnology, and turbine systems. In 1999, Bosch began a series of 3D pilot programs to replace its 2D tools.
The Solution
Bosch chose SolidWorks® software for its Manufacturing and Engineering Support pilot because it’s easy to use, interacts well with other CAD data, and facilitates the move from 2D to 3D. The pilot’s success resulted in widespread grassroots use of all SolidWorks design, simulation, and PDM applications. By selecting SolidWorks, Bosch has reduced fixture change-out time by 20 percent, realized 500 percent timesavings in electrical-mechanical design integration, standardized on one platform for manufacturing/machine design, and grown its number of SolidWorks users from 11 to 3,000.
