Watershot, Inc.
SUCCESS METRICS
- Reduced design cycle by 50 percent
- Cut design errors by 95 percent
- Manufactured product without a single prototype
- Created innovative gear tower assembly
The Challenge
Watershot, Inc., designs and manufactures underwater housings for 35 mm still, video, and 16 mm/35 mm film cameras. The demand for more sophisticated underwater camera housings – such as the underwater film housings produced for Zuccarini Films, Inc., a leading underwater cinematographer – compelled the company to investigate ways to improve design efficiency and accuracy.
The Solution
We selected SolidWorks 3D mechanical design software because of its ease-of-use, assembly functionality, tight integration with other engineering applications, and advanced visualization and design communication tools. By implementing SolidWorks CAD software on the Zuccarini Camera Housing project, Watershot realized a 50 percent reduction in its design cycle, cut design errors by 95 percent, developed a product without building a single prototype, and created an innovative gear tower assembly with the potential for future applications.
