The Challenge

DesignEdge offers a complete industrial design and development service supporting new products from sketch to tooling. We deliver styling excellence without compromising technical performance. Increasingly complex product forms made 3D essential, because 2D CAD was becoming timeconsuming and inaccurate. We needed parametric capabilities such as the ability to update 2D drawings automatically. We also needed to be able to link data for rapid prototyping through processes such as stereolithography and 3D machining.

The Solution

We chose SolidWorks software for its simple, user friendly interface, local support, relatively low cost, and extremely good value. Other solutions we evaluated fell down because of complicated operating interfaces, limits on complex shape generation, and disappointing rendering options. The ability of SolidWorks to output STL files for rapid prototype evaluation and link to toolmakers and injection molders was key. This capability along with the option to edit parts at different stages has resulted in faster development, fewer errors, increased confidence, and new business.
