The Challenge
Strida Ltd. designs, manufactures and sells the Strida bicycle, a radical folding bicycle with a distinctive A-shaped frame that folds into a "wheeled walking stick." With sales, marketing, manufacturing, and design spread around the globe, Strida Ltd. is a mainly web-based organization that operates under the name Strida.com. Strida is a multi-award winning product, which is sold in Japan, Korea, China, and Europe. One business challenge was to find software which is easy to use for both ourselves and our Taiwanese and Chinese suppliers. Technically, it had to have the power to handle complex forgings and moldings, maintain a production database of parts and drawings, and be easy enough for use by personnel who are not full-time CAD operators.
The Solution
SolidWorks CAD software was the only software that fully met our needs. It provides excellent communication capabilities through SolidWorks eDrawings and built-in file translation capabilities, which have also confirmed SolidWorks CAD software as the best choice. The software gives us the ability to build complex assemblies easily, which can be used in the design process to simulate folding mechanisms, and check for clearances and collisions. We can also quickly change part and mating dimensions directly in the assembly, just by double-clicking on a part.
