"The ease of modeling in 3D with full control of shapes virtually eliminates design limitations."
- Bjorn Kierulf, Principal

The Challenge

Bendis & Kierulf provides complete design services, ranging from concept and design to finished product drawings. Our firm consists of two designers, working together over the Internet, one located in West and the other in Middle Slovakia. We needed a reasonably priced, intuitive CAD program that would enable us to concentrate on the design process, while allowing us to produce digital models and technical drawings that could be used for production, tooling, and manufacturing. We also needed a solution that would enable daily collaboration over the Internet, so that we could work effectively with each other as well as with our clients in Europe.

The Solution

SolidWorks software satisfied our needs for a low-cost, PC-compatible solution with integrated Internet features. The ability to present models over the Internet with SolidWorks Viewer and the capabilities of the Parasolid programming core convinced us to invest in the program. The ease of modeling in 3D with full control of shapes virtually eliminates design limitations. Other programs that we considered did not offer the same ease-of-use and were too expensive or required high-end computers. SolidWorks has made professional industrial design possible in the emerging economies of Eastern Europe, giving us a chance to catch up with the rest of the industrialized world.
