Ingenieurbüro Hahn

Engine for Model Aircraft

The Results

  • Cut design time on one product from six months to six weeks

"The project was done in six weeks. Normally the process would have taken us six months."
- Michael Hahn

VAR: Solidline AG

The Challenge

Ingenieurbüro Hahn specializes in CAD consulting for all areas of motor design. The firm was looking for an easy-to-use design package that would provide good performance at a reasonable price. A key concern was finding a solution with the ability to model complex assemblies in context -– creating parts and maintaining relationships between parts within assemblies easily. In the past, the firm had used AutoCAD.

The Solution

Before choosing SolidWorks, the staff evaluated Mechanical Desktop but determined that the product did not fulfill its assembly design requirements. Ingenieurburo Hahn now uses SolidWorks, which offers true context-driven assembly design, a natural user interface, and effective modeling of fillets and shapes. In just six weeks, with just one staff member working on the project, the firm was able to complete the design for an aircraft engine that would have previously taken six months. The ability to generate prototypes in a short time has further accelerated development.
