The Challenge

Telian Corporation designs and manufactures low-cost, high-quality 900 MHz cordless telephone systems –- both digital and analog -- for export, largely to the U.S. The company offers contemporary designs featuring rounded and curved surfaces that appeal to modern consumers. In the past, using 2D AutoCAD, there were no ways to express surfaces effectively. Producing workable drawings required many hours. Staff members frequently didn't discover design errors until dies were in production. The organization needed a 3D modeling system that would minimize time and money expenditures while offering exact shapes that reflected design intent.

The Solution

The company evaluated various CAD systems, including SolidWorks CAD software, AutoCAD, and Pro/ENGINEER. Following a successful pilot project with SolidWorks, the company selected the solid modeler for all its new product development efforts. The full associativity and ability to easily create rounded shapes with SolidWorks CAD software enhanced the group’s design. Aided by SolidWorks, Telian has achieved greater design accuracy, reduced design cycle time by 20-to-30%, and improved communication with buyers.
