Leading provider of production line solutions enhances design productivity for its huge design team with SOLIDWORKS and manages, shares, and controls the data on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
As the company grows rapidly, there is a need to quickly access design and production data quickly and easily from anywhere for all employees and clients. Developing customized production line machines requires a lot of data, which need to be stored and accessed easily.

Nagano Automation Co. Ltd. is a leading provider of custom production line solutions for manufacturing companies. Founded in 1981, the company currently has about 170 employees and six factories, including one in Shenyang, Liaoning, China. Its headquarters are in Ueda, in northern Nagano Prefecture, about 90-minutes by bullet train from Tokyo.
Nagano Automation specializes in producing distinctive solutions for each of its manufacturing clients. The company employs SOLIDWORKS®, which enables its designers to customize each system to accommodate the specific needs and constraints of its manufacturing clientele, considering both physical environments and workforce capabilities.

“We create production lines for the factories of manufacturing companies, and creating production lines involves designing everything for each customer individually,” says Masahiro Endo, Design Technology Department Manager. “Various specifications are required depending on the size of the space to be used and the number of people involved, so our job is completely unique and custom for each factory. As a result, our company has become an organization dominated by designers.
As Nagano Automation grew, it needed to ensure that all team members had access to the latest data while working on so many complex and made-to-order designs. The company also needed to synchronize project data across different stages and geographic locations.

The number one reason I chose 3DEXPERIENCE is that you can manage the data and share it, being certain that everyone is using the latest version. By uploading the data to the cloud, you can share design data while staying at home.
Nagano Automation adopted the 3DEXPERIENCE® platform from Dassault Systèmes, which enabled teams to upload and manage project data in the cloud. This facilitated better collaboration among the design team while ensuring that everyone worked with the most current versions of each file.
Initially Nagano Automation has used 3DEXPERIENCE only for managing CAD data, but eventually the team will take advantage of simulation capabilities. The platform helps maintain productivity and continuity in design processes while designers can work efficiently from any location, including their homes.
Endo notes, “The number one reason I chose 3DEXPERIENCE is that you can manage the data and share it, being certain that everyone is using the latest version. By uploading the data to the cloud, you can share design data while staying at home.”

Adopting the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform provided a secure and efficient way for Nagano Automation designers to share updates. Nagano Automation’s adoption of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform demonstrates the potential of cloud technology in enhancing data management and collaboration in complex-design environments. In the future the company will further leverage 3DEXPERIENCE tools to continue to enhance its design capabilities and overall productivity.

Great ideas can come from many places. Product developers must find ways to bring their best people together so they can effectively collaborate as an ongoing part of development process, but must do this without incurring the cost of bringing everyone to a single location, installing more software, or purchasing additional hardware. To make collaboration more effective in generating innovation, product developers must be able to connect and collaborate without negatively impacting development cycles. They simply need to work smarter, not harder, and collaborate more, not less. This eBook shows how two companies used tools on the Extended SOLIDWORKS Portfolio to:Boost productivity and foster innovation with cloud-based toolsTake advantage of built-in data management capabilities with zero IT overheadConnect and gather feedback in a way that doesn’t delay development cyclesSafely collaborate on designs in real time with colleagues, partners, and suppliersLeverage SOLIDWORKS design tools to connect design teams any time, from anywhere and on any deviceDownload the eBook to discover the benefits of adopting a cloud-based approach to product design.
