Sedin Reduces Development Time by 40% with SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works

Sedin Technologies is a multinational information technology company with offices in India, Canada, Australia, and the U.S. Sedin provides global business consulting and software development along with digital, IT, and outsourcing services. Its engineering division provides design services for machinery manufacturing, industrial automation, and more for its global manufacturing clients. This product development group uses SOLIDWORKS® 3D design software to create product designs and prepare them for production.

In November 2021, Sedin began using 3DEXPERIENCE® Works data management, collaboration, and communication solutions. The portfolio leverages the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform to give customers access to industry-leading tools for design, simulation, manufacturing, and marketing.

“Prior to implementing 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions, we faced problems in communicating and sharing data with our clients,” says Engineering CAD Manager Venugopal Kannadaguli. “This issue became even more pressing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced all of our users to work remotely.” The cloud-based solutions enable a unified, secure workspace where a team can collaborate on designs more easily and keep projects on track.

Drastically Reducing Development Cycles

Sedin can now collaborate with manufacturing customers and its offices worldwide, enabling the company to cut development cycles by 40 percent. “Our clients are typically in different geographic locations, and we can connect with them using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and its communication tools,” Kannadaguli notes. "Overall, we have saved around 40 percent of our time after we implemented 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions.”

Within the first several months of using SOLIDWORKS in conjunction with 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions, Sedin completed 25 product development projects, relying on the cloud-based portfolio’s transparent data management capabilities to efficiently manage all of the component and assembly design data and associated documentation. Many of these engagements involved agricultural projects for the dairy industry, including feed pusher machines that help cows produce more milk, and staircases and structural platforms that enable personnel to work efficiently and safely.

Efficiently Managing Product Data

“3DEXPERIENCE Works data management is a good solution to have because it allows us to manage, share, and locate data simply and efficiently,” Kannadaguli stresses. “One of our projects involved an assembly of roughly 1,200 parts, which three users developed in just eight weeks. Searching for a specific file is fast and easy and has helped us save 70 to 80 percent of our time.”

By adding 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions to its SOLIDWORKS implementation, Sedin can easily work with other offices and clients located anywhere in the world over the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform. “Dassault Systèmes has been innovative, especially with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform and its solutions,” Kannadaguli says.

For example, our customers’ production teams can access files in any format on their shop floor directly from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.”
