XEONTEC Designs & Services is a leading product development and design services consulting firm that focuses on delivering innovative, highly functional product designs to clients worldwide, while also ensuring improved manufacturability. In addition to its primary product design consulting business, XEONTEC provides precision plastics injection-molding design and high-speed stamping design services to its clients. Founded in 2021 and based in Kochi, India, the design consultancy combines design creativity with production expertise to deliver premium services to its clients.
When XEONTEC was established, the first order of business was selecting the right design and engineering tools to grow the company and provide quality services to its customers, according to founder and Director of Engineering & Projects M. R. Richi. “I am a designer by profession and had been using ProE/Creo® since 1998,” Richi recalls. “But when I started my own business in 2021, I decided to switch to SOLIDWORKS® due to ease of learning. We take fresh graduates and toolmakers and train them to be designers. SOLIDWORKS supports this process better compared to other CAD systems. I also knew a lot of small and medium-sized clients who use SOLIDWORKS, making it easier to do business.”

Even though product design is XEONTEC’S primary business focus, company management saw opportunities to attract additional revenue by providing production-related design services, including precision injection-mold and high-speed stamping design services. To support all three areas, XEONTEC acquired SOLIDWORKS Design Premium, SOLIDWORKS Plastics Standard simulation, SOLIDWORKS Inspection Standard quality control, SOLIDWORKS Visualize Standard photorealistic rendering, and DraftSight 2D design solutions.
“We are a service provider with product design as our main domain; however, we also provide precision injection-mold design and high-speed stamping design services to our clients across the globe,” Richi explains. “SOLIDWORKS Design helps us in working these three domains effortlessly, even though these are entirely different domains, by providing integrated tools such as plastics flow simulation, quality control, and assembly interference detection capabilities.”

FAST DEVELOPMENT OF CONCEPTS WITH SHORT LEAD TIMES
Using SOLIDWORKS solutions, XEONTEC can quickly create design concepts — whether for products or tooling — resulting in shorter project lead times. “Our design challenges are mostly in creating a concept to meet the customer’s expected functionality, and the ease of developing a 3D model in SOLIDWORKS is one key advantage, be it a metal part or a plastic part,” Richi notes. “Another aspect is the basic analysis of strength and machinability. We are well experienced in manufacturing technology, so the integration of our thought processes and SOLIDWORKS modeling is faster and more streamlined.
“With the number of [SOLIDWORKS] licenses that we have, we are able to split a job into more designers and get the final result quickly,” Richi continues. “We might be spending the same time in total, but our customers enjoy very short lead times because we are able to solve our clients’ problems using SOLIDWORKS software tools.”

OPTIMIZING INJECTION-MOLDING WITH SOLIDWORKS PLASTICS
With integrated SOLIDWORKS Plastics simulation tools, XEONTEC is able to simulate injection-molded plastic runs, spot potential issues, and optimize mold designs for improved performance — all while reducing prototyping costs and delays. “Many mold designers only use the Plastic Flow analysis when SOLIDWORKS Plastics software is capable of providing the Freezing Time at End of Fill, which gives a digital image of the glass transition temperature layer bonding of the resin inside the cavity,” Richi stresses. “If the part requires mechanically strong bonding between all of the plastic, the mold should be filled before the glass transition temperature.
“Thus, SOLIDWORKS Plastics provides a clear understanding of how mechanically strong the part is,” Richi adds. “Heat deflection temperature is another parameter that we analyze to determine which resin to choose to achieve more competitive cycle times during production.”

INCREASED MOLD DESIGN CONFIDENCE, DECREASED ERRORS
Using SOLIDWORKS design tools in concert with integrated SOLIDWORKS Plastics simulation capabilities enables XEONTEC to gain greater confidence in its designs, resulting in a dramatic decrease in errors and better service to its customers. “When we deliver a service to our clients, we want to make sure that we provide the best solution,” Richi says. “When we make new products and molds, we can’t incur the cost and time associated with trial-and-error prototyping. SOLIDWORKS Plastics helps us make the right decisions from the very beginning of the process.”
SOLIDWORKS Plastics software is also enabling XEONTEC to work through customer problems. “We had a client that had an order from a U.S. company for 6 million assemblies per year, which required them to invest in eight injection-molding machines and 10 new molds,” Richi points out. “As these molds were manufactured in China, during the initial trials, the Chinese toolmaker could not fill the cavities using the injection-molding machines, which were 50 tons bigger than the sizes needed. We simulated the filling pressure pattern using SOLIDWORKS Plastics and were confident that the molds were correctly built, but demonstrated that the machine parameters were incorrect. We helped the toolmaker establish the correct machine parameters, and the toolmaker comfortably injection-molded the parts, saving our client from the cost of rectifying the tooling and avoiding a penalty from their customer for a delay.”
