Wind Saw Design Project
Wind-powered machines typically convert wind power to rotational motion. In this project, you combine purchased parts with components you design and fabricate a wind saw to learn the basics of CAD and 3D printing. These projects include documents, videos, and step-by-step instructions.
- Grade: 9-12
- Length: 12-20 hours
- Difficulty: Difficult
- Software: SOLIDWORKS xDesign (though SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD can also be used)
- Learning Objectives: Convert between different types of mechanical energy. Understand the basics of torque, friction, and rotational dynamics. Design with constraints by applying design intent to the project. Understand the basics of 3D printing. Purchase components and design around existing parts.
- Materials Needed: Filament (approximately 500g), Fan blade, Small saw blade, Pine dowels (3/16" & 1/4")
