Standby Screw Machine Products, a leading machined parts manufacturer, was founded in Berea, Ohio in 1939. With flexible, in-house production capabilities and technically advanced equipment the company produces a wide range of precision custom-designed parts in any quantity to meet exacting customer specifications.

The manufacturing software solution Standby Screw used to organize orders, schedule jobs, and manage production operations required much customization. Eventually, upgrades and maintenance were neglected, so management struggled to get valuable information from the system.

In 2013, the management of Standby Screw decided to adopt DELMIAWorks® ERP and MES (Manufacturing Execution System). The solutions are purpose-built to support manufacturing processes for small and mid-size manufacturing companies, including machining, and require minimal customization. Standby Screw leverages the solutions to boost productivity, make better decisions, and plan more effectively for continued growth.

Leaner Operation

Standby Screw transitioned to the DELMIAWorks ERP and MES systems over a weekend and experienced no operations downtime. The company also immediately benefitted from real-time access to accurate information, especially regarding scheduling. “DELMIAWorks enables us to see where we can consolidate jobs and machines, where we are tight, and where we have room to grow,” Vice President Jay Jay Koi points out.

Standby Screw also implemented a just-in-time approach to purchasing steel, its largest raw material by far, resulting in maximum resource utilization and better cash flow that enabled investment in new machines and production capabilities to support growth.

“We were impressed with the RealTime Production Monitoring, Inventory Management, and scheduling capabilities afforded by the DELMIAWorks ERP and MES systems,” Koi recounts. “We also valued the fact that DELMIAWorks required very little customization and actually helped us improve some of our processes by aligning them with how the system operates.”
