SOLIDWORKS
UK-based developer of high-speed electric motors takes collaboration, efficiency, and lifecycle management to a whole new level by combining SOLIDWORKS with 3DEXPERIENCE Works portfolio of solutions.
Manage collaboration in a world of remote and hybrid employees, while keeping a single source of truth for designs.
Add 3DEXPERIENCE® Works design and collaboration tools, including Product Release Engineer, Collaborative Business Innovator and Collaborative Industry Innovator to efficiently work with people inside and outside their company, including customers, suppliers, and manufacturers.
Aeristech was founded in 2007 in Warwick, Warwickshire, England. The company designs, develops, and delivers patented high-speed electric motors, inverters, and cost-effective oil-free compressors ideal for hydrogen fuel cell systems, industrial compressed air, HVAC, and e-supercharging.
The company looks to develop a hydrogen powertrain for London buses and buses across the country. “As a Londoner, this is a really exciting opportunity to work on such an iconic vehicle, bringing it into the future,” says Head of Engineering & Product Development Marisa Kurimbokus. Another exciting Aeristech project includes developing a hydrogen fuel cell aircraft to help transition the aviation industry away from traditional fuels to hydrogen net zero.

Aeristech added the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform to its SOLIDWORKS installation to improve its ability to work together as a company, thereby improving the product development process. “It is critical to us because it means that my work is no longer tied to just one location,” says Lead Mechanical Engineer Ralph Yazbeck. “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform allows me to work with my team seamlessly so that I can check on the engineers designing the different parts and components on my own time.”
Yazbeck also appreciates the platform’s product lifecycle management features, such as traceability, along with leveraging part reuse. “Being able to use existing parts in new projects means we are working towards a more sustainable product as a whole,” adds Yazbeck. “As the lead engineer on the [double-decker bus] project, I’m not just looking after the engineering side. I also have to make sure my communication is up to date with the purchasing team and, of course, the project management. 3DEXPERIENCE allows me to do this and to have all the information in one space.”

“We need to control everything from parts to documents and procedures to the test documents, [With SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works], I would say productivity has gone up about 80%. We’re no longer sitting in unproductive meetings. We’re agile. We can adopt changes on the go overnight.”
Aeristech has an extensive R&D background and is now moving into prototypes and eventually into mass production. “We need to control everything from parts to documents and procedures to the test documents,” explains Mechanical Engineering Lead Andrei Gheorghe. “[With SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works], I would say productivity has gone up about 80%. We’re no longer sitting in unproductive meetings. We’re agile. We can adopt changes on the go overnight.”

The software and services that Dassault Systèmes provide are vital to the company’s success. “[The 3DEXPERIENCE platform] makes sure that we continually collaborate as a team, which is so important in this day and age of hybrid working,” says Kurimbokus. “We have a single source of truth of information to work from, and [the platform] will enable us to go from where we are into the future in a very agile, promising way.”

Great ideas can come from many places. Product developers must find ways to bring their best people together so they can effectively collaborate as an ongoing part of development process, but must do this without incurring the cost of bringing everyone to a single location, installing more software, or purchasing additional hardware. To make collaboration more effective in generating innovation, product developers must be able to connect and collaborate without negatively impacting development cycles. They simply need to work smarter, not harder, and collaborate more, not less. This eBook shows how two companies used tools on the Extended SOLIDWORKS Portfolio to:Boost productivity and foster innovation with cloud-based toolsTake advantage of built-in data management capabilities with zero IT overheadConnect and gather feedback in a way that doesn’t delay development cyclesSafely collaborate on designs in real time with colleagues, partners, and suppliersLeverage SOLIDWORKS design tools to connect design teams any time, from anywhere and on any deviceDownload the eBook to discover the benefits of adopting a cloud-based approach to product design.
