DFXBOT Innovates Real-time Inventory Management Products with SOLIDWORKS and 3DEXPERIENCE Works

DFXBOT Private Limited in Navi Mumbai patented the Smart Live Inventory Management (SLIM) product that integrates Internet of Things (IoT) sensors with storage devices—such as pallets, bins, or crates—to enable real-time 24/7 access to inventory data. When these sensor-enabled pallets, bins, or crates communicate their data to a centralized system, they effectively become IoT-enabled storage devices.

The company’s products support manufacturing customers to reduce downtime by eliminating stock audits, production line stoppages due to unanticipated inventory shortfalls, and human error in inventory counting. DFXBOT customers enjoy enhanced supply chain visibility, increased operational efficiency, and improved forecasting.

The company’s designers and engineers used Autodesk Fusion 360® software for product development from the company’s founding in 2020 until early 2023. However, they encountered difficulties when working with large or complex designs and associated bills of material. DFXBOT also needed simulation and product data management tools and an integrated solution to help accelerate design cycles, reduce prototyping, and improve quality. After evaluating available solutions, DFXBOT chose to implement SOLIDWORKS® and cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE® Works. 

DFXBOT streamlined and restructured its product development processes to take advantage of the wide range of new capabilities with 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions, which resulted in faster development and shorter design cycles. DFXBOT Director Pankaj Kumar Mahoto notes, “The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is helping us by enabling easy and fast CAD modeling compared to other available CAD software. Our design process on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform consumes 20 to 30 percent less time now.”

DFXBOT can also speed development because its in-house FEA experts can conduct finite element analysis on product designs to validate design performance, minimize expensive rounds of physical prototyping, and optimize designs to improve quality.

“Running structural simulations helps us optimize designs to improve performance as well as ensure that our designs will pass our final lab test in one go,” Mahoto notes. “This simulation capability has enabled us to reduce requirements and associated costs for our prototype builds by 30 to 50 percent.”

3DEXPERIENCE Works enabled DFXBOT to transparently manage product design and associated data in the cloud, resolving data management issues when working on large, complex designs without incurring the expense of a traditional PDM system and associated server hardware. “With 3DEXPERIENCE Works solutions…our team members work on the same design, creating different components of the same parent assembly, simultaneously without any concerns for revision control or overwritten or lost data,” Mahoto points out.
