Challenge
Restore classic cars into fully electric customer-engineered rides outfitted with the latest and safest electric drivetrains, batteries, and other components on the market. Each car must be modeled in 3D to be sure all components fit into the existing engine bay before any work is performed.
Solution
Using SOLIDWORKS CAD Design tools to accelerate the design, prototyping, redesign, and preparation for production when converting old classic cars into EV muscle cars.
Results
- Optimizing the layout of electrical wiring includes strategic routing through secure spaces
- Increase safety by ensuring wires are isolated from impact zones
- Reduced production and prototyping costs
- Enhance overall efficiency from design through to production
E-Muscle Cars LLC specializes in converting professionally restored classic cars, such as early Camaros, Mustangs, Corvettes, Broncos, and Cobras into fully updated electric models. Their mission is to preserve the nostalgia and beauty of iconic cars while eliminating the hassles of traditional gasoline engines. “We remove the internal combustion engine, antiquated steering and brake [systems], and add cutting-edge EV motors,” explains E-Muscle Cars President Kevin Emr.
Digital Modeling of Classic Cars
E-Muscle Cars meticulously plans the integration of components using SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD software. Emr has been using SOLIDWORKS since his university days. “I was introduced to SOLIDWORKS in 2002 when I was on the Formula SAE racing team,” he recalls. “It was easy to learn and use.” Today SOLIDWORKS enables E-Muscle Cars to digitally model each car, which is especially important when it comes to electrical systems.

We can pre-route the wires digitally [in SOLIDWORKS] and go around any sharps or dangerous components. It really helps us plan our production and our material use for each vehicle.
Part of optimizing the layout of electrical wiring includes strategic routing through secure spaces and ensuring wires are isolated from both passenger areas and impact zones. This significantly elevates safety standards in E-Muscle Car designs.“We can pre-route the wires digitally [in SOLIDWORKS] and go around any sharps or dangerous components,” adds Emr. “It really helps us plan our production and our material use for each vehicle.”
Streamline Designs with 3D Scanning
With a 3D scan of all the components, the engineering team can streamline them using predefined geometries to refine a model. The final model is a precise 3D part in SOLIDWORKS. “We play with the model quite a bit more [at that point],” notes Emr. The E-Muscle Team then merge surfaces and assemble complex components, including motor mounts, motors, batteries, and battery enclosures, while ensuring all systems are optimally configured for safety, performance, and integration.
Making Sustainability Fun
Converting classic cars to electric power extends the life of cherished vehicles but also makes them more relevant and appealing to younger generations who value sustainability. However, Emr is quick to point out that the focus is not solely environmental—performance and the thrill of driving a powerful car remain paramount.
“Going fast and keeping our favorite cars on the road longer is what we're really after, and also convenience of ownership,” enthuses Emr. “One of the best side effects is that we're taking these old cars and making them future-proof. We're adding life they may not have had as parts become scarce.”
Classic Car Experience Optimized
As E-Muscle Cars transform professionally restored classic cars into fully electric rides, each car is outfitted with the latest and safest electric drivetrains, batteries, and other components on the market. Each car is also custom-engineered to maintain the authentic interior and exterior that muscle car enthusiasts live for, with all the performance intact and without hassles involved with dated technology. In this light, thanks to E-Muscle Cars, classic cars may become an attractive hobby with the next generation.
